Sounds like you did not properly neutralize the chemicals and dry the piece well when you were done.
Next time try washing THOROUGHLY with a flux remover or scrubbing with a paste of baking soda, then drying the piece well.

: I have tried black patina for the first time and I applied it just like I do with the copper patina and it looked beautiful. The next day I noticed the patina was turning white in spots, what happened? Do I need to clean it with steel wool and reapply it? Maybe I didn't clean my foiled project very well.
