What you are describing is probably work that has been nickel plated. Nickel is a bright shiny chrome-like metal that can be deposited on lead or solder using an electroplating system.

For the most part, that kind of thing is out of the realm of the average hobbyist or small studio. It is mainly done by larger commercial companies that produce suncatchers and boxes for wholesale sale.

If you look in the yellow pages under electroplating you may find somebody in your area that can do this for you.


: I've seen small stained glass items that have a very smooth, shiny "coating" type look to them where the soldering lines should be. Is that from a soldering pot? If not does anyone know the process that is used for that look?
