There are two potential problems you may encounter. First is the adhesive may have gone bad. You'll know if the foil won't stick.
The second is that the metal may have become tarnished. If the tarnish is mild your flux will clean it right up. If the metal is just too dirty you will have more trouble soldering it than it is worth.
