The best grinders and grinder heads are made by Glastar. If you can afford one, I suggest you get the Glastar G-8, also called the AllStar. You will never need another grinder because this one has all the power and feaures you'll need to do glass forever.

The next model down from that is the Super Star II. It's excellent for beginners because it's powerful enough and very reliable, but it only holds a 3/4" grinding head (or a 1/4 or 1/8" alternate head) while the AllStar uses a 1" head with a second story platform that holds a 1/8" head for small inside curves. If you can afford the price difference i suggest you go with the G-8.

You'll find that paying for good equipment is cheaper in the long run...and makes the work so much easier and more enjoyable. I started out with a Super Star II and moved up to the G-8. The smaller grinder now holds specialty heads like the Ripple bit or Lamp bit to do away with the need for changing out the grinder head on my main grinder in order to do specialty grinding. I recently bought a glastar disc grinder. It's not for beginners, but I don't know how I ever ground straight edges without it.
