Hi Dvora,
I just ran a couple of tests for you and found that the only preparation I have that had any effect on aluminum was a product called Jax pewter black.
It turned the aluminum test piece varying shades of black and gray for the brief time I left it on, but also produced large quantities of noxious sulphurous gases that are not likely to be good for your health and will smell you out of the house.
I rushed it under the sink to stop the production of gas and most of the color washed off too. As with many patinas, you might get a good color by steel wooling the first coat off and re-applying, but you'd need to work with active ventilation or it would not be adviseable. These gasses are probably quite TOXIC so don't try anything that will kill you.

: I wish to replicate aluminum foil labels for canisters. The aluminum foil is embossed with a design and lettering and is black. The part that is not embossed is the original colour of the foil. Is this done through patina technique and if so how do I do it?
: Thank you for your help, Dvora
