Hi Doug,

The glass magazine writers seem to love to write articles about how the latest incarnation of lead free solder "flows just like 50/50 solder".

Having tried several of these "wonder solders" over the years I have yet to experience their supposed success with these products.

Lead free solders all seem to leave a lot of junk on your iron tip and inexplicably while flowing OK for a bit, will just decide to start dropping lumps into your solder line. They also do not respond well to attempts to patch up the imperfections and smell gosh awful while you work with them.
Lead free solders do not take patina well either.
Lead free is compatible with both tiffany copper foil and lead came work.

: I have recently developed a desire to pursue the art of stained glass. Once engaged in research I discovered that lead soder is frequenlys used during a project. However, i learned that there is lead free soder product available which is supposed to function just as good as the lead soder. I was wondering if it actually functions just as well as lead? In addition, is it compatiable with both foil and the lead rod stuff or just one?
