Here's what I do:

First you need either a dense foam or styrofoam board. Cut two pieces to the exact size of the glass not including any framing material. If the panel has a wooden frame the foam must be thick enough that it stands past the wood when you lay it against the glass. Next cut two pieces of wood the size of the entire panel including the frame.
Make a sandwich, first wood, then foam, next the panel, them foam again and finally the top layer of wood.
Strap the sandwich together with a good reinforced tape.
Now pack the whole sandwich in a larger box. You must have about four inches of foam peanuts around the perimeter of the panel and at least a foot of pellets above and below the panel.

: Does anyone have a really good way to mail a stained glass piece? I have a 2 1/2 ft by 1 1/2 ft piece that I need to mail to my sister. Any ideas how to send it? I was told to build a special crate for it out of wood, but I think that seems a bit much. Any other suggestions? Thanks
