Tony,

My favorite small iron these days is the Hakko model 456 (Black Handle). It is a completely different beast from the red handle hobby iron that you have. It is not a cheap iron but everything has been carefully thought out, from the heavy duty cord with a spring to distribute the stresses of working with the iron so the wires don't break, to the innovative system for holding the tip on so that it doesn't get seized up, to the high performance ceramic heater that is actually inserted into a hole milled in the tip for fast response when you turn the temperature control up. And YES, any iron that is suitable for working with stained glass NEEDS A TEMPERATURE CONTROL. (Except those with the control built in, but I don't care for those....another story.)

: In response to all my soldering questions I think that one thing is my soldering iron I had a frend use it and she said she thinks it is bad. It is a HAKKO Red 60 watt. Gary, would you please reccomend a good iron to get. Thanks.
