The room temperature in my glass workshop is often kept cool (Canadian Winters) so when preparing to cut glass it is often cooler than room temperature. I keep a hair dryer hooked to the side of my cutting table and use it to warm up the glass quickly. This works great when I don't have the foresight to turn up the room thermostat in sufficient time, nor the patience to wait!
