: I have stored lead came and it got wet and has developed awhite oxidation. How can I chemically remove this. I have tried in the past using steel wool which does not work well on metal as soft as lead. The way I ended up removing this was by scraping it off with my lead knife, but I will throw out the came and buy new strips if I have to do this again. It takes too much time and effort. If I could stick the strip in hydrocloric acid or something and dissolve the precipitate, it may be worth salvaging the came.

I do lots of repairs, just scrape the lead where you intend to solder.
