Lynne, the only fume device that's really effective is a fan or filter that's vented to the OUTSIDE. After that (or along with it) the hepa filters like the honeywell and hunter brands which are very affordable small hepas work well. You don't need a whole room sized device....just one that will vent your immediate soldering area.
