Hi Tony,

The shears you are thinking of are called the James pattern shears. The blades are shorter, narrower and the handle is offset so that your hand remains below the plane of your pattern paper to minimize distortion.

Even so, proper technique is a must. Any pattern shears will work best when cutting deep inside of the blade, as close as possible to the hinge. You need to hold the pattern paper firmly and force the shears forward as you cut with short strokes, constantly advancing the shears further into the paper after each short snip.

If you have been using this technique with little success the James just might help you out. We sell them here in the shop and if you can't get them where you shop, email me privately at gary@dodgestudio.com and we can arrange to sell you one.

: For some reason cutting the pattern out with the three bladed shears is the most frustrating for me as for some reason some of the pieces I cut out quite don't fit. I saw some where the three bladed shears that were a smaller size and not as long and suppose to be easier, I can't remember where I saw them. Cans someone tell me where i can purchase the smaller size shears? Thanks
