Hi Terry,

We have a 25 watt candelabra bulb in ours. Never had any problems with heat, but it is an accent piece. You are not going to get a lot of light out of a 25 watt bulb.

The Traditional Star is the only one of our patterns that is not an original design. It is actually a reproduction of a very old design. None of the old ones had any ventilation either.

It is among the first of our publications. Originally published in 1995 we have sold literally thousands of them through wholsale distributors and have not heard of anybody having a problem with them.

I would recommend that you ask your hardware store for parts (sockets and wires) that are suitable for high heat because the bulb points down so all the heat rises up to the socket and wires.

: I recently ordered and received the Traditional Star pattern. It's the Moravian star. The parts list doesn't say anything about what type or wattage bulb to use, and there doesn't appear to be any system of venting the heat from the bulb. After reading through the instructions it looks like it's closed up pretty tight. Most lamps generate some heat and there are slits in the vase cap to allow the heat to escape. I'd really like to make one of these but if the design doen't work, I don't want to waste my time. Anybody have any experience with these??
