This is what I thought you meant, Jo, but wanted to make sure. OK, once you use a utility or Exacto blade to scrape off the old foil, you'll have a lot of glue residue. Best way to clean this is by wiping with a solvent like Goo-gone or Goof-Off. Then, you must wash with HOT water and detergent until the pieces are squeaky clean. I always dump my glass into an alcohol bath, wipe and allow to air dry before foiling. A clean glass edge will take foil with no problem. Unless you're foiling in a very cold room you don't need to warm glass for foiling. You may be confusing those directions with the ones that advise you to warm glass to make it easier to cut. Even that isn't necessary unless the glass is really cold.

Burnishing foil is as important as applying it. I don't know how you apply foil....by hand, with table foiler or Glastar Hand Foilers. I have a photo method on Silicon Folly showing the use of the Glastar Hand foilers. It includes burnishing instructions. You might want to take a look at that if you need help in this area.

: I'm sorry Angel, what I was referring to was that I have a circular piece(copper foiled) that I have taken apart and now I want to clean off the old copper foil and adhesive and start over. When I'm ready to re-foil I wanted to know if I needed to heat the glass or just make sure the glass was clean and put new foil on. See, I've been told that the foil sticks better if the glass is warm and then I've been told, no, there's no need to warm the glass, just go ahead and re-foil...well, since I'm already a bit scared of doing copper foil, since I've had trouble with lead, I just wanted to know how I could start over and try to make something out of these bevels and other glass pieces, maybe a candle holder or something "odd" looking!ha, hey, it'll be my first self taught piece, I'm just hoping for the best!!

: Thanks for you help!!!
