What the heck do you use to glue pattern pieces on?

I learned stained glass in High School and well, that was erm.. ehh.. well, a WHILE ago. We always used rubber cement to glue the patterns to the glass, but I'm wondering if technology is on my side and theres something better? Im so tired of rubbing it off my hands and it looking like boogies.... well, anyways, thanks for any tips!
