Hi Gayle,

I guess that in your situation steel wool and repatina is a reasonable course to follow, but first make sure that the steel wool is necessary at all. Just test a spot with a reapplication of the patina right over the Kem-o-pro and see if it takes.
If you do wind up having to steel wool, don't forget to work with it wet so you don't wind up with lead poisoning from the lead dust and wear rubber gloves.
But after all that is said, do you really mean lead came when you say lead? If so, why patina or Kem-o-pro at all? If you cement a came project properly you really don't need patina unless you are shooting for copper and they really don't make a good copper that I've seen.
Just a vigorous brushing with some whiting gives your cames a lovely pewter finish and if you want it darker use a black cement and brush vigorously for a rich black came. Kem-o-pro is not necessary as the oils in the cement give the cames a nice protective sheen.

: Help! I have just used the Kem-O-Pro finishing compound on my lead project and discovered that I must have rubbed too hard in some areas as the patina is much lighter in those places. Can I just use steel wool to remove the finishing compound and re-patina those areas? Any advice is appreciated!
: Gayle
