I have a cheap Diamond Tech Speedster
Mostly I got it because of circular designs; and I have carpal tunnel and cutting and grinding a lot puts my hand to sleep.
My glass is not very thin.
And the saw is not variable speed. I have seen the red glow, but force water to puddle to stop it. Is there an external way to slow down a saw?
The break is on the outer (or right hand side) and it is small chips. It seems to happen within the first 3/4 inch of any cut (straight or circular) and breaks off in 1/4 inch sections.
: Linda,
: What type of saw are you using and what shapes are you trying to cut?
: If you are trying to cut stuff that is extremely skinny it just may be beyond the tolerance of the material (glass).
: If you have a variable speed saw you should try cutting at a slower speed. With some glasses more than others, there is a tendency to heat up faster than the water can cool the glass. Certainly if you are seeing a red glow at the point of blade contact you need to run the saw slower.
: If this does not answer your questions give me more details of exactly how and when the glass breaks.

: : My glass band saw keeps breaking the glass. The top guide is .25 inch from glass, the water is on the blade, and it still breaks. Any hints?
