Thanks Again Gary..AS USUAL..for your insight. That was my gut feeling (that as long as you were patient and practiced there wasn't too much you couldn't do with just the standard tools of the trade. THANKS !
: Hi,

: The wire saw is a decent tool. A lot depends on what you plan to do with it.

: I have both the wire saw and ring saw in my studio, primarily to use as demo models for my customers. I rarely use either one in my work.

: The Ringsaw is VERY loud. If I use it for more than a few seconds I wear ear protection as it leaves my ears ringing if I don't. The Wire saw has more vibration than the Ringsaw due to its' reciprocating motion. The blade goes up and down and the changing direction of blade travel causes vibration. Also, since half the time the blade is going up, you need to be sure that you are holding the glass down firmly, a very minor thing.

: Precisely because I don't often use a saw, and when I do it is usually for just a few seconds, I usually find myself using the Ringsaw. I don't feel like filling the water reservoir and adjusting the valve, all of which might take me a minute, in order to run the saw for 30 seconds or so. The ringsaw is ready to go. I just flip the switch. I've had the ringsaw for about two years and haven't even gotten close to the 3 hour break in on the blade when you need to replace the grommets for the first time.

: If I were a hobbyist, planning to REALLY USE a saw, I'd probably choose the wire saw for lower cost, cheaper operation (blades, no grommets, brearings, etc.) and the ability to make inside cuts without investing in another $70 to $90 special ringsaw blade in order to do it.

: GaryD

: : IS this a worthwhile saw for the hobbyist/small studio. From all the reviews I have read its much cheaper to maintain and to replace blades than the Tarus II (which I have heard is a maintaninece nightmare). Why is this one seemingly "less popular" and definatly less expensive.
