Came is shapped like the letter H. The outside parts are called leaves or flange, the inside is the heart.
The sizes given in catalongs refer to the width of the flange. So 1/4" came means that the total width is 1/4" The heart is + - 1/16" so the glass gets covered by 3/32". There is NO standard size came. CAme comes 3/32" to 1 1/2" wide.

Stand with your legs apart, one in front of the other,and pull with your arms. Pull slowly and you will feel the lead stop stretching, so YOU stop. Thin lead stretchs more then wide lead (usually).

You can do this if you want. Unless the zinc is to serve as the finished frame, there is NO reason to use it over lead.

Shape it around the glass.
